NTV Basketball – Player Report
DATE: 2025–2026 Season
GAME: UMiami vs Elon
SCOUT: Matias Deya
PLAYER/#: Malik Reneau (#5)
SCHOOL/TEAM: University of Miami
CLASS: Senior
HEIGHT: 6’9”
WEIGHT: 238 lbs
POSITION: F
BODY/ATHLETICISM:
Reneau has a strong, well-built frame with good functional athleticism for his size. He runs the floor well, shows fluid movements in tight spaces, and operates with solid balance in the paint. While he is not long for an interior player, he compensates with strength and body control. He is in noticeably good shape and plays with consistent physical effort.
SHOOTING:
Reneau’s scoring profile is almost entirely paint-based. His free-throw shooting form is sound and repeatable, but that touch does not translate to midrange or perimeter shooting. He rarely takes jump shots and shows very little confidence beyond the painted area. An example in this game was passing up a completely open three with two seconds left on the shot clock, which resulted in a blocked attempt, clear evidence he does not believe in his jumper. His mechanics lack fluidity and need restructuring if he is going to develop as a legitimate shooting threat.
POSITION OFFENSE:
Reneau is a reliable and efficient post scorer with strong footwork and a clear preference for finishing with his left hand. He scores well through contact and has good touch around the rim. However, his offensive game is heavily dependent on old-school post play, which is unlikely to translate cleanly at his size. At 6’9, he plays like a traditional big despite being undersized for that role at the NBA level. He does not stretch the floor, rarely faces up, and does not threaten defenses outside the paint. Expanding his shooting range, particularly from three, is essential if he wants to project to the next level.
DEFENSE/REBOUNDING:
He competes defensively and uses his strength well to hold post position. His athleticism allows him to contest shots and rotate effectively, though he can be challenged by longer, more vertical bigs. Rebounding is solid on both ends; he positions himself well and uses physicality to carve out space. His size will limit some defensive versatility at higher levels, but effort is not a concern.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Reneau benefits from being a more experienced and physically mature senior, often overpowering early-season non-conference opponents. His reliance on interior scoring works at this level but raises questions about professional projection without the development of a jumper.
OVERALL RATING:
Late Second Round – Priority Undrafted (with upward mobility)
Reneau has clear strengths as an interior scorer and finisher, but his NBA outlook depends heavily on developing a consistent outside shot. If he becomes a credible floor-spacer, there is a pathway to sticking on an NBA roster. Without that development, his game may be limited to systems that value undersized interior bigs.
